My world is a little less happy today.

in·no·vate - v. intr. To begin or introduce something new.
I am back in school. I fit the criteria for a displaced worker, so that makes me eligible for getting an associate degree in computer programming paid for through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Only a total dumbass would have turned that down, so here I am enrolled in an incredibly huge (24,000 students) community college.
My days are filled with classes (I’m pursuing a degree in Computer Information Systems), homework, and working (a part time job on campus as a student worker in Corporate Media Support). School is a lot of fun; I do whine about algebra, but secretly find it satisfying.
The job is very interesting, because it is always changing – lots of different companies and organizations use the Sinclair Center (where I work) for meetings and fundraisers. I like the fundraisers the best, because they are usually formal events held on the weekends; I can sit in one of the balconies on either end of the great hall & watch. I am basically a roadie, and we are supposed to remain as unobtrusive as possible, so there is a slight Cinderella feel to it. It totally plays into fantasy! The guys I work with are great. They are figuring out that I do know how to set up most of the equipment, and am not afraid to ask questions if I am not sure on the rest. We eat breakfast together and sit around and bullshit, so basically it is a happy life.
The drawbacks? I cannot have a full time job while in school or else I lose the funding, so my budget is tight. That makes apartment hunting extra challenging. Also, I cannot get on flickr or GNE through the campus firewall, so I don’t get to chat with those friends as much. But true to my nature, I have already started looking for ways around or through. There are always loopholes.
You just have to be innovative.
